The first mistake we made was having Finley (the dog) wear a different coloured collar in about a quarter of the shots we filmed, even though it was a small, barely noticeable detail, if we didn't re-do the shots then it would have looked unprofessional and in-continuous. Luckily we realized this early on and it hasn't affected us time-wise!
The second, less irritating mistake we made, was filming the scene outside on two separate occasions, meaning the lighting was slightly different on the separate days we filmed. The first day we filmed the scene when Finley and his owner are walking to the shop was mid afternoon and the next day we filmed this same scene was early evening where it was starting to get dark. Luckily the first day we shot this scene we did much more than the second day and the dog was much more well behaved so we'll probably end up only using the shots from the first day. However, if we do end up wanting to use the shots from the second day (where the lighting is slightly darker) we've learnt on Final Cut, how to make the brightness higher and this makes the shots look nearly identical to the ones shot in daylight.
Even though these mistakes have cost us time, we learnt a lot in the process, forgetting about one small detail can cost a lot and that continuity in all aspects of the film is important.
